Global business accelerates growth at Innovation Centre
01-Dec-2011Global aviation planning and airport management consultants Leading Edge Aviation Planning Professionals (LEAPP) have relocated their head office from Kuala Lumpur to the Sunshine Coast.
LEAPP have set up their Australian office in the Business Accelerator at the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast with three staff, with plans to grow to 5 to 8 over the next three years.
The company already has offices in Dubai, Ireland and Malaysia and a total core staff world-wide of about 15 that swells to 30 on major projects. It has played a significant role master-planning some of the world's busiest airports in locations like Hong Kong, Korea and Bangkok.
“We will continue to do business globally but Australia is a new market for us and we want to do business in this region,” director of aviation development Steve Adams said. “Previously our business concentration has been in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
“But we also want to be located here for other reasons such as an association with what we see as a good potential source of graduates and staff coming out of the university who can be useful to us as future employees.
“in the past LEAPP has fostered ties with Universities mostly in the UK and seeks areas in which to collaborate with the University of the Sunshine Coast”
LEAPP was initially introduced to the Innovation Centre by Alex Lever-Shaw, Sunshine Coast Council and Ryan Skehan, Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation as a potential location to operate its Australian firm.
“the Centre offers a good base to serve Australia and Pacific regional markets as well as establish relations with USC for future research needs”
“The aviation industry as a whole is going through a lot of change. Australia is one location where airports are developing to adapt to increasing demand for aviation services...the industry is growing,” Mr Adams said.
The Sunshine Coast Airport has announced plans for a $200 million redevelopment, including the addition of a second runway.
“We've met with airport management, we are familiar with the plans,” Mr Adams said. “It's a good idea based on the future expected demand and opportunities for providing facilities to attract business.”
